If you really love French fashion the 2008 Spring Summer collections are for you.
The shows all around drew on the classic and distinctive styling of the best moments of the past while exploring an updated and bold edge. There may have been instances where the modern and fanciful dominated especially when it comes to Yohji Yamamoto, Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier and Louis Vuitton, but the romance and familiar shapes always came through.
Overall the looks are very feminine, formal but relaxed, with many retro references to the 20s through to the 80’s. Within this framework many designers such as Valentino, Elie Saab, Celine and Chanel added vibrant colors and patterns.
At the other end of the spectrum Dior and Karl Lagerfeld went black tie and almost exclusively black and white brilliantly contrasting masculine and feminine elements that have always been a cornerstone of French fashion from Coco Chanel to Yves Saint Laurent.
